I wasn't sure what to do with the cord. I know some people save it in the baby book, but I decided to go with a more symbolic keepsake, by planting it under Ellie's fig tree.

Ellie's Umbilical Cord Fell Out!
On Wednesday, October 12, Ellie's eighth day of life, her umbilical cord fell out. I felt a mix of emotions. On the one hand, I was relieved to have it gone. We no longer needed to worry about it while changing her diaper, and - let's face it - it is sort of gross. On the other hand, it was the first sign of Ellie's "growing up," so to speak. The cord that had once connected her to me, from which I nourished her for almost a year, was gone. I got a little teary-eyed . . .

I wasn't sure what to do with the cord. I know some people save it in the baby book, but I decided to go with a more symbolic keepsake, by planting it under Ellie's fig tree.
